Day 206: Use these Holidays for Self-Education

It’s important to incorporate into your “normal life” some distortion/alteration in to the usual flow of movement to so break the routine where one thus can take some time to sit down with yourself and do some investigation into reality. I mean it’s important to do some evaluation and see if the life is going into the right direction. I know in the current world system there are so many ways to preoccupy ourselves with an array of possible distractions, that many people, unfortunately, will never find the gap of silence to ask some fundamental questions about their existence.

Nevertheless, it’s Christmas time now and apparently it’s the time to give and receive presents – so here is my small gift which you could use in that moment of slowing yourself down or even stopping completely and looking around to see the road behind that’s been already walked and also see the present as it is today and whether this present is a PRESENT that we want to gift to ourselves and our children yet for another year to come.

My suggestion/gift is very simple yet it might take some time to unwrap it completely, probably even a whole day of dedication. For that you might need to cancel some meeting or a party, yet I promise that in the end it will be worth it. Here it is:

The naked truth of our creation in the form of nicely presented documentaries:

A World Without Water   (Duration 1:18:15)

The world is running out of its most precious resource. True Vision’s timely film tells of the personal tragedies behind the mounting privatisation of water supplies.

More than a billion people across the globe don’t have access to safe water. Every day 3900 children die as a result of insufficient or unclean water supplies. The situation can only get worse as water gets evermore scarce.

How can the MEDIA become a Worthy Part of Life on Earth? (Duration 1:19:19)

This eye opening long documentary film elaborates on the discovery of American media lies by comparing how news are delivered to the US population and to other countries around the world. The film provides a striking comparison of U.S. and international media coverage of the crisis in the ME zeroing in on how structural distortions in U.S. coverage have reinforced false perceptions of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. for example.

Blind Spot (Duration 1:25:48)

Blind Spot is a documentary that illustrates the current energy crisis that our way of life is facing. Whatever the measures of greed, wishful thinking, neglect or ignorance, we have put ourselves at a crossroad which offers two paths, both with dire consequences. If we continue to burn fossil fuels we will choke the life out of the planet and if we don’t our way of life will collapse.

The Century of the Self: Part 1- Happiness Machines (watch all 4 parts)

Adam Curtis’ acclaimed series examines the rise of the all-consuming self against the backdrop of the Freud dynasty.

To many in both politics and business, the triumph of the self is the ultimate expression of democracy, where power has finally moved to the people. Certainly the people may feel they are in charge, but are they really? The Century of the Self tells the untold and sometimes controversial story of the growth of the mass-consumer society in Britain and the United States. How was the all-consuming self created, by whom, and in whose interests?

The Trap (3 parts)

This is another brilliant Adam Curtis documentary originally produced for the BBC. It talks about the modern political realities, where the policies came from and the massive failures of those ideals and how they have ended up exactly where they did not want to be.

Psywar

This film explores the evolution of propaganda and public relations in the United States, with an emphasis on the “elitist theory of democracy” and the relationship between war, propaganda and class.

Human Resources

“Brilliant…Riveting…The amount of material the filmmaker covers and unifies is astounding…Human Resources diagnoses the 20th century.”- Stephen Soldz, Professor, Boston Graduate School of Psychoanalysis; President, Psychologists for Social Responsibility

A Crude Awakening The Oil Crash 2006

Story: The story behind the fossil fuels, specially Oil.
Its excessive exploitation and the negative impacts in Mankind and Planet Earth. OilCrash visits cities around the world to learn of our future from  leading authorities.

Do Profit turn Capitalists into Dangerous Humans?

THE YES MEN FIX THE WORLD is a screwball true story about two gonzo political activists who, posing as top executives of giant corporations, lie their way into big business conferences and pull off the world’s most outrageous pranks.
